Vipers SC Win Second Successive Uganda Premier League Title
Vipers Sports Club have won the StarTimes Uganda Premier League title for the second time in a row following a dramatic last day of the campaign.
The Venoms were confirmed as champions for the sixth time on the final day after crushing Busoga United 5-0 at St Mary’s stadium Kitende on Saturday evening.
Abubakar Lawal bragged a magical brace while Yunus Sentamu, Martin Kizza and Bright Anukani scored a goal each to hand Alex Isabiyre’s guns the much needed win.
Victory saw the Venoms clinched the league title on superior goal difference of 27 compared to KCCA FC’s 21.
KCCA FC who were in the third place before the last game moved to the second place on 53 points level with table toppers Vipers SC after recording a 5-0 win over Bright Stars.
Rogers Mato bagged four goals while Charles Lwanga was on target to hand the Kasassiro Boys the much needed victory.
The league title went down the wire and it was decided on the final day after SC Villa who started the game at the top of the log and needed a win against URA FC lost 1-0 at Wankulukuku stadium.
The defeat dropped the Jogoos to the third place on 52 points while URA FC finished 5th on 42 points.
