Tanzania Start 2022 CECAFA Women’s Championship Campaign With Victory Over South Sudan
Shime Bakari Nyundoa and her guns commenced their 2022 CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship campaign with a resounding victory over South Sudan.
Tanzania inflicted a hard faught 2-0 defeat on the Bright Starlets in their Group B opener at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Thursday evening.
Goals from Skipper Amina Ally Bilali and Diana Lucas Msewa in either halves of the clash handed a perfect start of the campaign for Shime Bakari Nyundoa’s charges.
The opening minutes of the encounter looked balance with South Sudan showing composure and character but Tanzania managed to end the first stanza in a 1-0 lead.
Skipper Amina Ally Bilali snatched the lead for Tanzania on 39th minute of the match when her long range strike got goalkeeper Hassan off her line and despite catching the ball, it had already crossed the line and second assistant referee Alice Umutesi was in the right position to confirm to goal.
Diana Lucas Msewa doubled the score with a low strike at the farpost on the added time for a 2-0 win
Elsewhere Tanzania’s Group B opponents, Ethiopia banked home a 5-0 win over Zanzibar in the opening game of the 2022 CECAFA Women’s Senior Champions played at FUFA Technical Center in Njeru on Thursday afternoon.

Loza Abera Geinore and Daniel Zekele Kidist scored a brace each while Aregash Kasla Tadesse was also on target for Ethiopia as they outsmarted Zanzibar
Ethiopia and Tanzania now lead Group B with 3 points apiece, followed by South Sudan and Zanzibar with zero each
Group B action will resume on Saturday, 4th June with Tanzania facing Ethiopia while South Sudan will challenge Zanzibar.
