2022 CECAFA WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP: Host Uganda Trash Djibouti To Qualify For Semi-Finals
Host Uganda Crested Cranes became the first team to qualify for the Semi-finals at the 2022 CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship after thrashing Djibouti 5-0 AT FUFA Technical Center in Njeru on Friday afternoon.
First-half goals from Aisha Nantongo and Margaret Namirimu and second half goals from Sandra Nabweteme, Fazila Ikwaput and substitute Phiona Nabbumba handed Uganda their second win in Group A following Wednesday’s 2-0 win against Rwanda
Nantongo opened the lead for George Lutalo’s guns after powering home a header from Margaret Kunihira’s delivery in the 17 minutes.
Two minutes to the break Margeret Namirimu doubled the lead for Crested Cranes after firing a low strike past Djibouti’s custodian Rokiatou Doumbia as Uganda took a 2-0 lead in the first interval.

After the break Nabweteme added the third as she tapped home from a close range in the 49 minutes before substitute Nabbumba added the fourth goal in the 52 minutes.
Fazila Ikwaput completed the rout in the 67 minutes as Uganda beat Djibouti 5-0 to qualify for Semi final of the show-piece.
Meanwhile Uganda’s Group A opponents Burundi became the second team to qualify for the Semi-finals at the 2022 CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship after defeating Rwanda 2-1 at FUFA Technical Center in Njeru on Friday evening.

Sandra Niyonkuru registered her second brace of the tournament after opening the scoring in the 13 minutes before completing the winner from the spot in the 75 minutes. Rwanda got the consolation through Zawadi Usanase in the 37 minutes.
Uganda and Burundi now qualify for the 2022 CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship after registering wins in their various encounters on Friday evening.
Both teams will end their Group A games on Sunday 5 June as Uganda face Burundi while Djibouti will challenge Rwanda.
