
2022 CECAFA WOMEN WRAP: Ikwaput Bags Brace As Uganda Crested Cranes Begin Campaign With A Win Over Rwanda
Uganda Crested Cranes begun their 2022 Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) Women Senior Championship campaign in a flyer after seeing off Rwanda at FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru on Wednesday evening.
Lady Doves striker Fazilah Ikwaput scored a magical brace to hand Uganda Crested Cranes a 2-0 victory over Rwanda.
In a cagey opening first half at FUFA Technical Center, Fazilah Ikwaput broke the deadlock at the stroke of the break to hand Crested Cranes a 1-0 lead in the first stanza.
Three minutes from the break, Ikwaput put the icing on the cake as she lobed the ball past Rwanda’s rushing custodian to double Uganda’s lead.
Rwanda came in strong searching for the equalizers but George Lutalo’s guns stayed resolute blocking any attempts from the visitors as they held on the remaining minutes to beat Rwanda.
Elsewhere Uganda’s Group A opponents, Burundi recorded a 3-0 win over Djibouti in the opening game of the 2022 CECAFA Women’s Senior Champions played at FUFA Technical Center in Njeru on Wednesday afternoon.

Sandrine Niyonkuru bagged a magical brace while midfielder Joelle Bukuru was also on target for Burundi as they outsmarted Djibouti who played the rest of the second half with 10 players after midfielder Nadia Nour was sent off for retaliation in the 45 minutes.
Burundi and Uganda Crested Cranes now lead Group A with 3 points apiece, followed by Rwanda and Djibouti with zero each.
Group A has hosts Uganda, Burundi, Djibouti and Rwanda while Group B has South Sudan, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Zanzibar
