Former Onduparaka FC Goalkeeper Joins Rwanda’s Premier League Entrants
Newly promoted Rwanda Premier League entity Etoile de L’Est Football Club have completed the signing of former Onduparaka FC custodian Mathias Muwanga ahead of the new season.
Muwanga joins the club as a free agent after deciding not to renew his employment contract with the Caterpilars at the end of last year.
He has put pen to paper on a one-year employment contract that will see him through until 2024, the club announced on Saturday evening.
“OFFICIAL: etoiledel‘est confirm the signing of Onduparaka goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga from Uganda #ubumwe#umurava#intsinzi,” reads club statement.
Muwanga is a two time goalkeeper of the year award winner having emerged the best in 2016 with Sadolin Paints and 2021 while playing for Express FC.
He has previously played for Sadolin Paints, URA FC, Express FC and most recently Onduparaka Football Club.
At Etoile de L’Est he joins former Kisugu United Boris Kwezi and former Police FC midfielder Arafat Kakonge as other Ugandans playing for the club.
The custodian joins a growing list of Ugandan players who have decided to ply their trade in the Rwandan Premier League during this primary transfer window including Charles Bbaale and Simon Tamale (both to Rayon Sports), Emmanuel Kalyowa and Brian Kalumba (both to Kiyovu Sports) and Taddeo Lwanga who joined APR FC.
