Uganda Rugby Sevens Fall out to Samoa
The Uganda National Rugby Sevens Team has lost its first match at the Ongoing 2022 Rugby Sevens World Cup.
In a match played today morning at the Sunny-breezy CapeTown Stadium in South Africa,Uganda fell out on 07-33 against resilient Samoa.
Coach Tolbert Onyango paraded a familiar starting Sevens with Michael Wokorach captaining a team that had Alex Aturinda,Timothy Kisiga,Adrian Kasito,Aaron Ofwoyirwoth,Ian Munyani and Phillip Wokorach and boys were eager to replicate 2018 Rugby Sevens World Cup history of losing 07-45 against the same opponent in San Francisco.
That in mind pushed the African Champions to a fine Start of team work letting Aaron Ofoyrwoth dodge past three tackles to set team captain Micheal Wokorach to try.
In a run,the only professional player on the squad,Phillip Wokorach adding two points from the drop kick could be Uganda’s only work on the day as Samoa rallied from the backline to double points at Halftime ,Thanks to Melani Matavao who converted twice.
Desire Ayera and Norbert Okeny stepped up at interval but not enough resistance for Samoa led by Steve Onosai running through the pearls backline to add three tries to record another 19 points to tally thirty three.
Uganda will match up against South Korea in the Losers bowl tomorrow as winners Samoa settle for a Round of 16 tie with USA.
