
Defending Champoins Vipers SC held to a frustrating 0-0 draw with Bright Stars In SUPL Opener
Vipers Sports Club begun their title defence off to a disappointing note after they were held to a goalless draw by Bright Stars in the opening match of the Nnew season played on Friday evening at St Mary’s Stadium.
As expected Vipers SC produced a strong possesion in the first half but failed to find the back of the net with both sides settling for a share of spoils.
Yunus Ssentamu missed an opportunity to put the hosts ahead as his effort went inches wide over the crossbar in the 15th minute.
Sentamu again came close to breaking the deadlock but his shot in the 30th minute went wide before heading wide off Abdu Lumala’s cross five minutes to break as both sides settled for 0-0 in the first stanza.
After the restart, Sam Ssenyojo had a chance to put Bright Stars ahead put his header was well saved by Vipers custodian Alfred Mudekereza.
Moments later Bright Anukani missed an opportunity following a delivery from Lumala before substitute Cromwell Rwothomio was superbly denied by both the goalkeeper and the crossbar as both sides couldnot be seperated in the final minutes.
Vipers SC are back in action on Saturday 8th October in the CAF Champions League against TP Mazembe at St Mary’s staduim. Meanwhile Bright Stars host Maroons FC at the Kavumba Recreational Grounds on Tuesday, October 4.
