Northern Regional League: Northern Gateway Sink Young Elephants On Penalties To Earn Promotion To FUFA Big League
Northern Gateway Football Club have become the latest club to earn promotion to the 2022/23 StarTimes FUFA Big League season.
This is after beating Young Elephants 5-4 on penalties in the Northern Regional League promotional play-off encounter played at Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu on Sunday evening.
Following a 2-2 draw in the regulation time Northern Gateway FC needed penalties to sink Young Elephants and eventually be crowned champions of the just concluded 2021/22 Northern Regional League tournament.

To reach this stage Northern Gateway topped the Rhino Group with 29 points from 13 games having registered 9 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats.
Meanwhile Young Elephants made it after completing the season unbeaten and on top of the Elephant Group with 40 points as they recorded 12 wins and 4 draws out of 16 matches.
Eleven Soldiers FC and Gulu United from Rhino and Elephant Group respectively were the two teams relegated to the 4th Division Leagues while Amuka Bright Stars FC were demoted to the 5th Division League.
The Lira based entity (Northern Gateway FC) is the 5th regional league club to be promoted to the FUFA Big league after Adjumani TC, Soroti City FC, Kaaro Kirungi FC and Jinja North United FC.
