2022 CECAFA WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP: Ikwaput’s Late Winner Sends Uganda To Final, Set Up Match With Burundi
Uganda Crested Cranes beat Ethiopia 1-0 in the 2022 Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) Women Senior Championship Semi-final clash played at FUFA Technical Center on Thursday afternoon.
Lady Doves striker Fazilah Ikwaput was the savior as she scored the only goal of the encounter in the extra minutes to hand Uganda the much needed win.
It had all started very positively for George Lutalo’s guns with Sandra Nabweteme’s strike hitting the upright bar just 14 minutes from kickoff.
Shamirah Nalugya missed an opportunity to put Crested Cranes ahead when her effort hit the bar for a rebound as both sides settled for a goalles draw in the first-half.

After a restart of few further chances Ikwaput found the late winner just five minutes to the end of extra time, volleying home from skipper Hasifah Nassuna’s corner kick delivery for a 1-0 win.
Victory means Uganda Crested Cranes progress to 2022 CECAFA Women’s Senior Championship finals while Ethiopia bow out of the tournament.
George Lutalo’s guns will now face Burundi in the final of the tournament on Saturday 11 June after Gustave Niyonkuru’s guns defeated Tanzania 2-1 in the Semi-finals of the tournament on Thursday evening.

Burundi’s Skipper Aisha Djafari cancelled out Opa Clement opener for Tanzania in the first half before Sandra Niyonkuru bagged the winner from a spot kick just 9 minutes to the stoppage time.
The two goals were enough though and Burundi now progress to face Uganda in the final, a repeat of the final Group A games that saw Crested Cranes triumph on that occasion.
Meanwhile Ethiopia will challenge Tanzania to decide the third best team of the tournament in a repeat of Group B Matchday 2 fixtures that ended in a 2-2 draw recently.
