
Vipers Extend SUPL Lead With A 2-1 Win Over Bright Stars
Vipers Sports Club extended their lead on top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table with a 2-1 win over Soltilo Bright Stars at St Mary’s Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Halid Lwaliwa and Ceasor Manzoki scored on either sides of the clash as Vipers ease past Bright Stars for their 13th win of the season.
Ibahim Kasinde bagged a consolation goal through a penalty for Bright Stars as they were condemned to their 9th defeat of the campaign.
10 minutes from kickoff Lwaliwa put the hosts ahead after brilliantly heading home Bobosi Byaruhanga’s cross for a 1-0.
Yunus Ssentamu should have added the third but his header from Dissan Gwaliwango’s free-kick went over the cross bar as Vipers took a 1-0 lead in the first stanza.
Five minutes from break, Soltilo Bright Stars got an equalizer through Ibrahim Kasinde who found the back of the net through a wonderful penalty kick for a 1-1.
Moments later Ceasor Manzoki doubled the lead for the hosts striking from a close range for a 2-1 lead in the 57 minutes.
Vipers SC should have added the third but Bobosi Byaruhanga missed to convert from a spot kick after his shot was saved by Bright Stars custodian Simon Tamale in the 65th minute as Vipers SC held on to beat Bright Stars 2-1.
The result means Vipers SC remained at the top of the log with 43 points from 19 games while Bright Stars FC are rooted in the 2nd place from the bottom of the log with 16 points from 19 matches.
Both teams are back in action on Friday 11th March 2022 as Vipers SC visit Tooro United FC at Buhinga Stadium while Bright Stars FC host BUL FC at Kavuma Recreational Center.
