Super Sub Andama Leaves It Late To Salvage A Point For Kongolo Boys
Wakiso Giants Football Club and Arua Hill SC couldn’t be seperated as they had to settle for a 1-1 stalemate in the 2022/23 StarTimes Uganda Premier League clash at Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium on Tuesday evening.
A 90th minute Andama Junior equalizer from the spot following a handball in the box ensured a share of the spoils for the two teams in their final game of the first round.
Andama’s debut goal for the Kongolo Boys came just as Hassan Ssenyonjo’s goal in the first-half looked set to hand Wakiso Giants victory over Arua Hill SC.
Ssenyonjo brilliantly found the back of the net off Owen Baba’s delivery to hand Wakiso Giants a 1-0 lead just 10 minutes from Kick-off.
The visitors responded through Isaac Ogwang but his header from Allan Mugalu’s long pass was well saved by the Purple Sharks’ custodian Bashir Sekagya in the 15th minute.
Allan Mugalu and Richard Matovu both came close to levelling matters for Arua Hill but were denied by Sekagya in the 34th and 40th minutes respectively as Wakiso Giants took a 1-0 lead at the interval.
After the break, Charles Livingston Mbabazi’s visiting guns continued to create more chances and were eventually paid off at the stroke of the stoppage time through substitute Anadama Junior’s penalty.
Given only four minutes to impress, the former Calvary FC star Andama took this opportunity to open his goal scoring account for the Leopards as he converted from a spot to salvage a point for the visitors.
The draw temporarily lifted Wakiso Giants in the third place in the log standings on 25 points from 14 games ahead of the first round break while Arua Hill SC completed their first round of the 2022/23 season in the sixth place on 23 points after 14 games.
Wakiso Giants are back in action on 9th Febuary as they host KCCA FC in the first match of the second round at Kabaka Kyabaggu while Arua Hill will kick start their second round campaign at home in Barifa against the same opponent (KCCA FC) but on 24th Febuary.
