
Wakiso Giants Edge Express In Five-Goal Thriller, Send Clear Statement As UPL Title Contenders
Wakiso Giants Football Club made clear statements why they are on top of the log when they defeated Express Football Club 3-2 at Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium on Monday evening.
Frank Ssebuufu scored a magical brace while Ibrahim Kasule was also on target to hand the Purple Sharks the victory over the Red Eagles who grabbed consolotion goals through Anwar Ntege’s brace as they were condemned to their third defeat of the season.
The hosts stunned Express when they took an early lead through Frank Ssebuufu who turned home Ibrahim Kasule’s delivery to hand Wakiso Giants a 1-0 lead in the 8th minute.
The visitors responded by exerting pressure on Wakiso Giants with Arthur Kigundu looking likeliest Express FC player to score but his effort in the 25th minue went wide.
Moments later Wakiso Giants doubled their lead with Ibrahim Kasule finding the back of the net from Grant Matsiko’s cross.
Express FC pulled one back through Anwar Ntege who headed home Kigundu’s cross in the 32nd minute but that was not enough as Wakiso Giants took a 2-1 lead in the first stanza.
It was an end-to-end stuff after the restart with both teams launching attacks as Express FC leveled matters through Anwar Ntege who completed his own brace just two minutes from break and at the other end Frank Ssebuufu equally completed his own brace and the third for the Purple Sharks as he restored their lead in the 57 minutes to hand Wakiso Giants their sixth win of season.
Victory saw Wakiso Giants remain on top of the log standings with 21 points from 10 games while Express FC are in the 5th position with 14 points after 9 games.
Both teams are back in action on 2nd February 2022 as Wakiso Giants visit BUL FC at FUFA Technical Center while Express FC host Arua Hill SC at Wankulukuku stadium.
