Ssentamu’s Strike Powers Vipers To Stanbic Uganda Cup Round 32
Vipers Sports Club began their defense of the Stanbic Uganda Cup with a 1-0 victory over Kigezi HomeBoys Football Club in the round of 64 encounter played at Kabale Municipal Stadium on Monday evening.
Roberto Oliveira charges advanced to the next round thanks to a lone goal from striker Yunus Ssentamu.
The Venoms now progress to the round 32 and will face the winner of the encounter between SC Villa and Super Eagles that was postponed after the Jogoos were involved in an accident enroute to Gulu on Saturday.
It was a quiet start to the match with no goalmouth action inside the opening 10 minutes of the encounter as the two teams sized each other up.
The score was goalless at the interval as both sides failed to break the deadlock.
Vipers saw most of the ball after the restart pushing for the opening goal with Ceasor Manzoki failing to open the lead through a brilliant header off Paul Willa’s delivery.
The visitors grabbed a late goal when Ssentamu guided a shot through a crowd of players into the back of the net to hand Vipers SC a 1-0 win with seven minutes left on the clock.
Victory means Vipers SC progressed to round of 32 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup tournament while Kigezi HomeBoys bowed out of show-piece.
