Vipers Condemn Arua Hill To Second Straight Defeat As They Move Top Of The Log In UPL
Reigning Champions Vipers Sports Club ascended to the top of the log in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League following a 2-0 victory over Arua Hill Sports Club in a clash played under flood lights at St Mary’s stadium on Thursday evening.
First half goals from Livingston Mulondo and Abubakar Lawal handed the Kongolo Boys a second straight defeat after matchday two of the 2023/24 top tier league.
Mulondo opened the lead for the hosts as he headed home Ashraf Mandela’s brilliant cross just 15 minutes from Kickoff.
Before Nigerian international Abubakar Lawal doubled the lead for the Venoms in the 32 minutes through a wonderful strike off Bright Anukani’s delivery.
Five minutes later, John Rogers Okumu could have reduced the deficit for the visitors but he failed to find the back of the net in a one-on-one situation against Vipers custodian Komakech.
The score was 2-0 in favor of Vipers SC at the interval.
After the break, Arua Hill SC missed an opportunity to pull one back through a well taken free kick delivery from Gaddafi Wahab that saw Rashid Kawawa’s effort denied by Komakech in the 66th minute.
The host managed to hold on to the remaining minutes and eventually settled for a 2-0 win over the Kongolo Boys.
Victory saw Vipers SC temporarily move to the top of log on 6 points after 2 games while Arua Hill are in the second place from the bottom of the log with no points after 2 games.
Vipers Sports Club are back in action on Tuesday 3rd October when they visit Mbarara City FC at Kakyeka stadium while Arua Hill will host BUL FC at Paridi stadium in Adjumani on Sunday 1st October 2023.
