Vipers Stage Late Escape To Snatch Draw Against BUL, But Title Hopes Hit A Huge Blow
Vipers Sports Club scored a late goal to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw against BUL Football Club in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League encounter played at FUFA Technical Center.
Karim Watambala cancelled out Samuel Ssekamatte’s opener as Vipers’ quest to retain their title and also win a double were dented by the Eastern Giants on Tuesday evening.
Following a goalless first half, it appeared as if the Venoms would suffer a huge blow in their bid to retain their titles as Alex Isabiye’s guns were already trailing on his return to face his former employers.
The visitors conceded in the 65th minute when Samuel Ssekamatte headed home Reagan Kalyowa’s brilliant cross.
But Vipers equalized in the added minute of normal time through a penalty kick from Karim Watambala after Yunus Sentamu was brought down by Douglas Muganga in the forbiden area to settle up for a share of spoils in the final whistle.
The draw dropped Vipers SC to the second place in the log standings on 50 points after 27 games while BUL FC are in the 8th position on 35 points after 27 games.
The Venoms will pray that table toppers Villa drop points against URA in the final game at Mehta on Saturday 27th May as they can’t afford their final encounter on the same day at home against Busoga United.
For BUL FC their final game on Saturay 27th May will be nothing but a fight for the 7th position when they visit Maroons FC at Luzira Maximum Prison Grounds.
