
Vipers SC Top The Log After Goalless Draw Against Onduparaka.
Vipers Sports Club move to the top of the summit following their 0-0 draw against Onduparaka Football Club at Greenlight Stadium on Friday evening.
The Caterpillars enjoyed the lion’s share of possession and chances in an often frenetic, open encounter but couldn’t find the back of the Fabien Mutombora’s net.
The Venoms only notable chance in the first half came through Isa Mubira but his effort went wide just 12 minutes from kickoff.
Emmanuel Oketch could have put the Caterpillars ahead but his shot off Gama William’s cross in the 27 minutes.
Abonga Dominic also had his own opportunity but failed to find the back of the net as his effort went wide in the 33 minutes.
The score was 0-0 in the first stanza.
Moments from the break, Gama William missed a brilliant opportunity to put the hosts ahead after his long range strike went wide.
Karim Watambala could have opened the lead for Vipers in the 51 minutes but his wonderful strike hit the woodwork.
Emmanuel Ok etch and Rashid Okocha both came close to breaking the deadlock but couldn’t find the back of the net for the Caterpillars through a tap outside and a wide shot in 64 and 69 minutes respectively.
Hillary Mukudane thought he had broken the lead for the visitors but his goal was ruled for offside in 76 minutes.
As the final whistle blows, the two sides could not be separated and eventually settled for share of spoils.
The draw lifts Vipers to the top of the log on 46 points level to second place SC Villa after 25 games while Onduparaka FC remained rooted at the foot of the table with 16 points from 25 games.
Both teams are back in action on Tuesday 16 as Vipers host Express at St Mary’s stadium while Onduparaka FC visit Maroons Fc Luzira Maximum Prison Grounds.
