
Court Grants Uganda Netball Federation President Bail
The Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court has granted bail to Uganda Netball Federation President Sarah Babirye and businesswoman Zainab Namutebi.
Babirye and Namutebi were granted bail on Wednesday by Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate, Siena Owomugisha. They were asked to pay 0ne Million Shillings each cash and each of their two sureties have been asked to execute a non-cash bond of Sh4m.
Babirye presented her husband/Fiance Dan Ntale and her Sister in law Dorothy Lwanga who is a teacher at Kitebi Primary School.
State Attorney didn’t object the bail but asked fot stringent terms to be imposed on the two and to direct them to pay a cash bail such that they don’t abscond from trail.
They two are expected to return to court on June 6 for hearing of the case.
Babirye and Namutebi were remanded to Luzira Prisons on May 15th after being accused on charges of obtaining Shs16 million by false pretense. The accuser includes Mother Sarah Wamala who was conned shillings 8 million to take her son to United States Of America.
Another alleged victim, Gloria Kikomeko Nantambi also assertted that Ms Kityo, 37, Namutebi and others still at large in May 2022, obtained Shs8 million from her claiming that they would take her to the US.
Recently the Uganda Netball Federation President Sarah Babirye was asked to step aside from her role by the Minister of Education and Sports Janet Kataha Museveni for three months due issues related to management of the Federation, governance and accountability of funds.
Currently Flayvia Byekwaso is serving as the caretaker President for the Uganda Netball Federation.
