Mavita hopeful in “Inconvenienced” Junior Gazelles.
The Federation of Uganda Basketball Association has flagged off The National Girls U-18 Basketball Team (Junior Gazelles) to Antananarivo, Madagascar to compete in the FIBA Africa U-18 Championship that tips off from 4th-14th August 2022.
The contingent comprising of 11Players and 5 Officials has only engaged in a week-long residential training, Shockingly,they will travel with a player less and hurting to state is that they will reach 24 hours after the championship has tipped off.
The “inconvienced” team may not win hearts of many but Head Coach Mavita Ali hopes they will stand on cordinative play to write history in Madagascar amidst all hinderances.
“We are looking forward to getting a good Tournament as possible and our target is a Podium Finish because this is not a new stage to us”.
The Team led by Zonal Qualifiers’ MVP Slyvia Nantongo includes AdongPiny Immaculate,Lamunu Shillah,Letaru Dianah,Tashobya Darlene,Nalwadda Sharifa,Namyalo Christine,Namukwaya Mariam,Atek Zoe,Namale Sarah,Nambogo Mary and will be coached by Mavita Ali accompanied by Sseruyingo Roger.
The Other Officials include Akot Sarah (Team Physio),Bbabra Okot (Team Manager) and Hudson Ssegamwenge (Leader of Delegation ) who thanked government for supporting junior sides which enables the growth of the game.
The Junior Gazelles are pooled in Group A alongside hosts Madagascar, Algeria and Mali and will contest for green lights to The 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup if atleast they finish runners-up in this tournament.
