Leku Scores On Debut As Zesco United And Green Eagles Share Spoils
It’s not easy for newly signed players to live up to expectations immediately and please their fans and new clubs in the best way by scoring on a debut.
But former Arua Hill Sports Club striker Alfred Leku did that on Friday afternoon in a Four-Club preseason tournament.
Leku had a dream debut in a pre-season tournament scoring a brilliant goal for Zesco United in a 1-1 stalemate against Green Eagles at Nkoloma stadium.
The forward needed 36 minutes to show Team Ya Ziko why head coach Numba Mumamba signed him to the club ahead of the coming season.
The 24 year-old broke the deadlock in the first half with an exquisite tap in after a sumptuous cross from John Chingandu.

“It was an important game and goal for him especially that this was his first game. He has done very well, and I think he is somebody that we will rely on. We just need to encourage him,” ZESCO United Head Coach Numba Mumamba reacted on Leku’s first goal for the club.
Green Eagles got an equalizer in the dying minutes of the game after Warren Kunda dispatched a powerful shot outside the box which left Gregory Sanjase helpless as both sides settled for a 1-1 draw.
The draw means Zesco United sit in the second place of the Four-Club preseason tournament log with one point while Green Eagles are in the third place of the log with equally a single point after one match.
Both teams are back in action tomorrow (Sunday) as ZESCO United face bottom placed Zanaco at 15:00 hours on matchday two of the tournament while Green Eagles challenge Red Arrows in an early kick off (13:00).
