Nyamityobora 1-3 Ndejje University: Kasule’s Brace Relegates Nyamityobora From Big League
Nyamityobora Football Club have been relegated from the StarTimes FUFA Big League after losing 3-1 to Ndejje University FC at Kakyeka Stadium on Thursday evening.
The hosts needed to avoid a defeat agianst Ndejje University to keep their slim survival hopes alive but a brace from Abdulkarim Kasule and a goal from Nicholas Luzige handed the visitors their sixth win of the season.
Nyamityobora got a late consolation goal from a penalty kick but that wasn’t enough as they dropped straight back down to the regional league after a crestfallen 2021-2022 season.
Ndejje University dominated the early stages and took a lead through Kasule’s opener just 3 minutes from kickoff before Reagan Mpande missed a penalty to make it 2-0 at the stroke of the interval.
The score was 1-0 in favor of Ndejje University in the first-half.
Moments from the restart, Luzige found the back of the net for the visitors to put them two up and seemingly in control.
Kasule completed his own brace after slotting home to round off a comfortable 3-0 lead in the 70th minute.
Substitute Brain Obedi thought he had added the fourth goal for Ndejje University but his goal was ruled out for an offside just 10 minutes to the stoppage time.
The Abanyakare pulled one back from the spot at the stroke of the stoppage time but that was not enough as Ndejje University held on for a 3-1 win and now remained in the 6th place of the log but moved up to 22 points from 16 matches.
The result also means Nyamitoyobora’s relegation was confirmed at the final whistle, as they remain rock bottom of the table on 9 points with only three matches remaining.
Nyamityobora can no longer mathematically make up the 10-point gap on 9th-placed Luweero United, who shared spoils after playing to 1-1 draw with Kitara FC at Masindi Municipal Stadium.
