No Relegation Thoughts as Sc.villa visits KCCA.
Saturday 12th March 2022
KCCA FC Vs SC Villa, 4Pm
MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo
KCCA FC will want to regain their position at the summit when they welcome SC Villa on Saturday in a nerve wrecking Kampala derby at the Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
The Kasasiro Boys have an opportunity to go level on points (43) with current leaders Vipers, who suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat to Tooro United on Friday.
KCCA FC return from a 2-all draw against Express last week and they host a Villa side that has gone seven games without getting any win in the league.
SC Villa’s Greek tactician Petros Koukouras says there are no relegation thoughts lingering in his mind and those of his players, even as they face the daunting task of going to Lugogo, to face their eternal enemies KCCA FC.
Villa has lost at the MTN Omondi stadium on their last five visits. And although it appears weird to involve Villa, the record 16 time champions in the relegation conversation, a loss to KCCA FC will make it more glaring.
The Jogoos have only managed two points from a possible 12 in the four second round games they have played, which makes them less fancied, to stop KCCA from closing down the gap on Vipers.
But it is not just those three aforementioned that will have to perform for Villa to succeed. Koukouras said recently, that the players have to realize Villa is a big team with lots of pedigree, to be associated with possible relegation.
“We are in a difficult place. But we can emerge from it if we work together with determination and not feel sorry for ourselves. We are not about relegation, but winning every game,” Koukouras said.
Scoring of chances, and KCCA’s recent defending has been a gross undoing of late. Beyond being knocked out of the Stanbic Uganda Cup at the round of 32 by the Soltilo Bright Stars, Byekwaso’s charges have one shot at silverware remaining that is the league championship.
KCCA Team news
KCCA media have reported that Manager Morley Byekwaso missed the training sessions on Thursday and Friday because he was unwell and is expected to return after full recovery.
Midfielder Gift Ali is ruled out of the derby having suffered a knock on his knee in the previous game against Express FC and was stretched off before the game ended.
Brian Majwega is back having missed the previous game against Express due to suspension
Youngster Dominic Ayella is still away due to school commitments.
Kayanja Brian is still a long term absentee.
Sc.Villa Team News
For SC Villa Isma Mugulusi is still a long term absentee having gone under surgery.
Charles Bbaale is also out and will miss out on this one
The stakes for KCCA and Villa will be pretty high drawing back from their 1-1 result in the first round in Njeru. But it is more about winning the league while for the other, staving off the relegation possibility.
Nonetheless, for either to get the result they need, their application in games will probably need to go up in leaps and bounds. For all the quality KCCA has, they have not been playing like title contenders. Perhaps the same could be said of Villa on the flip side. Their form is relegation-kind!
