UPDF 1-1 Vipers: Venoms Drop Points At Bombo Barracks
Vipers Sports Club were left frustrated as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Uganda Peoples Defense Force Football Club (UPDF FC) in StarTimes Uganda Premier League clash played at Bombo Military Barracks on Friday afternoon.
Ivan Ahimbisibwe gave the Army sides the lead from the penalty just after the half hour mark. The penalty was awarded after Vipers defender Disan Gwaliwango was adjudged to have pulled down UPDF striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe in the forbidden area.
Ahimbisibwe stepped up and scored the resultant spot kick as he sent Vipers custodian Fabien Mutombora the wrong way for a 1-0 lead in the 37 minutes.
The score was 1-0 in favor of UPDF FC at the interval.
After the break, Milton Karisa missed a chance to equalize for the Venoms with a low strike off Paul Mucureezi’s delivery.
Mucureezi leveled matters for the visitors from a free kick. The free kick was awarded after a foul on substitute Paul Mucureezi by UPDF FC player near the edge of the box.
The former Mbarara City FC winger curled in the resultant free kick for a 1-1 draw in the 75th minutes.
Vipers nearly found the second goal just 4 minutes to the stoppage time but Yunus Sentamu’s effort was well saved by UPDF’s custodian Yusus Wasswa as both sides settled for a share of spoils at the final whistle.
The draw means Vipers SC remained at top of the log with 40 points from 18 games while UPDFC are in the 8th place of the standings with 22 points after 18 games.
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday 26th Feb 2022. UPDF will visit Bright Stars FC at Kavuma Recreational Center while Vipers SC will also visit KCCA FC at Phillip Omondi Stadium.
