Arua hosts Street netball competition in history.
Arua hosts street netball competition for the first Time in history in Westnile region on Sunday the 30th January 2022 with six teams participating at Arua police grounds in Arua city.
The six teams that kicked off the competition at police grounds included Vita netball club of Arua city, Nebbi Municipal Queens from Nebbi district, Yumbe netball club from Yumbe district, Oriajini netball club from Terego district, Ochi netball club from Yumbe and Maracha netball club from maracha district.
The president Uganda netball federation Miss. Breeze Sarah Babirye opened the competition at Arua police grounds and said during the opening ceremony that,
The street netball competition has been organized under the theme “Streets are never homes for children”.
However Babirye said streets are never and the best homes for children to stay and the competition is being aimed at ensuring children stay at schools or homes as the street is not an alternative for children to live in.
The president also said as a gift and as a strong signal to the function they will pick the best five  best players in the competition and as a federation they will give them scholarships for them to secure a better future.
Meanwhile Arua district sports officer Ezati Bito, said it is a very important day for Northern Region, Westnile, Arua city and westnile Districts for hosting the street netball lounge for the first of its kind in the history of Uganda.
However Bito said streets are not meant for children to shop, stay and sleep.
The competition is being aimed at calling upon the public to ensure that they invest through netball such that the children can achieve their dreams as sports is one of the best avenues to invest in.
